Relevant to my post this morning, there’s a new story today that Anthropic is acquiring 1.7 GW from an existing company setting up natural gas turbines:

The AI startup bought commitments ​for 1.7 gigawatts of heavy-duty ​generators in late September from OnePWR ⁠Solutions, a San Antonio, Texas-based equipment ​supplier, the report said.

There’s a data center being built for Anthropic in Hubbard, but it’s not clear whether it’s operational yet. If Anthropic were to use those off-grid generators in Hubbard or elsewhere in Texas, they may still need air-quality permits, which could be delayed.
